Latest Updates from Our Project:

Leg Update (things are moving again!)
almost 2 years ago – Mon, Jun 20, 2022 at 03:18:20 AM

Hey everyone, it's Gregg here with Wyrm Forge again.

Westfalia asked if I could provide another update, and of course I’m happy to oblige.

First off, the ACL rehab is going very well thankfully. I’ve got full extension back, and flexing the knee fully is almost there. I’m getting around much better (still a bit of a limp, but it's improving each week), and am able to stand for longer periods of time before really hurting.

I’ve been back in the shop several hours a day for about the last week now, and my time in the shop is ramping back to full time. My caster also arrived Monday along with his family, and should be starting to get into the shop in probably two weeks or sooner.

The Boris Patreon project, has had most of the sub-masters casted for it at this point aside from the December Witch/Necromancer that needed to go back to Boris for a bit of work, and now needs molded. Casting of these will wrap up soon, followed with a review and cleanup under magnification, and any other minor work needed like straightening of weapons/etc. This all should be by early next week.

Then production mold making will begin. That should be around sixty silicone molds to produce and cut to do the production run. This is a solid week or more of work. Ideally after which my caster Adrian will have his family settled in by this point, and be able to get into the shop. At this point, casting will commence for probably 7-10 days assuming there are no major issues discovered. Overall around 6500 individual pieces to produce, and then quality check. These will then get casting tabs cut off, and be bagged into around 4600 complete miniatures. This takes another week or so, and then everything is sent off to Westfalia for fulfillment.

During this casting and processing process, I’ll jump back into mold making for the True Monsters campaign.

So the timeline in general looks pretty close to the last estimate, though it has taken a bit longer to get back into the shop, and this will push things out a few more weeks. True Monsters / Virus is likely to benefit from casting help being on hand, and possibly pull in or not push out further, though it's always difficult to say until in the thick of it.

Boris Patreon: Mid-July.

True Monsters/Virus: Mid-August - Early September.

Cheers

Leg update!
almost 2 years ago – Thu, May 26, 2022 at 09:45:25 AM

Hi everybody, Gregg has written another update on his leg situation - things are looing up!

In his own words:

Hey everyone, it's Gregg here with Wyrm Forge again. I just wanted to provide you all with a quick update. I had my ACL reconstruction surgery two weeks ago to the day, and it went seemingly very well. I was lucky and there was no meniscus damage, just the ruptured ACL ligament. I started physical therapy 3x/week this Monday, and seem to be ahead on the recovery curve. I’m off crutches, and am close to having full range of motion back in the knee, though the leg has certainly lost some muscle mass and strength in the six weeks of this injury.

Walking and standing for more than 10 minutes at once or so is still difficult and painful, much like sitting without the leg extended for more than say half an hour or so. That said, things seem to be improving each day, I’m going to attempt to get back into the shop next Wednesday or so (3-weeks post-op) and see how it goes, not sure if casting will be back in the cards yet, but I suspect I’ll be able to start spending some hours cutting and making molds again at the very least. Even if I need to bring along the knee cryo cuff and cooler thing, that has been a miracle with swelling.

In other good news, a long term friend of mine, and previously trained shop caster from Montana, has officially signed a lease on a house close to the shop today. He should have himself and family fully moved down here, and be ready to get into the shop in probably 3-4 weeks. I’m hoping this will help to get the spice flowing once more, and us through some of these extra delays.

I’ll provide another update in a few weeks, as I know more. Once again thanks for the patience, and all the best wishes.

Cheers

Production update from Wyrmforge (our casters)
about 2 years ago – Wed, May 04, 2022 at 11:19:20 PM

Hey everyone, Gregg here with Wyrm Forge.

I have an unfortunate update to relay to everyone.
The previously released production schedule is unfortunately being pushed back further to the following:

+ The Cabinet of Curiosities - expected fulfillment: Mid June/ End of June

+ True Monsters / Virus - expected fulfillment: Mid August / End of August

As to why this is happening..

Three weeks ago, I was twisting to grab some materials, and my knee suddenly dislocated with the joint popping in and out. The knee was unstable and wouldn’t support my weight anymore without buckling. The knee swelled up quite a lot, and I took a few days off of basically elevating it and icing. I could limp around the next day using a cane, and suspected it was just a bad sprain. Though I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with an orthopedic doctor just to make sure nothing serious was going on.

They did x-rays and verified nothing bone related was injured, and ordered an MRI to be safe, though generally suspected it was just a bad sprain, or possibly some minor meniscus tearing.

I got back into the shop, and while generally painful still to stand for any large length of time, was getting back to mold making and casting. Each day my knee started to seem to get better, less swelling, more range of motion, better walking, etc.

I gave Westfalia an updated schedule, based on expecting my knee to just continue to improve, that was relayed in the last update, hoping in another week or two to be back at full speed.

Last week I had my MRI, and have been waiting on results. Unfortunately what looked like a mostly easy recovery, started to change this last weekend. As the swelling has decreased further the joint has become increasingly unstable. Even with using a knee brace, if I turn the wrong way, pivot, lift sideways, etc. The knee is popping in and out again, followed with massive pain for hours.

I got in with the orthopedic doctor yesterday and got my MRI results which the radiology report reads as follows:

IMPRESSION:

1. High-grade tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with suspected essentially complete rupture of the ligament.

2. Osseous contusion of the posterior lateral tibial plateau.

3. Undersurface irregularity of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus suspicious for mild superficial undersurface meniscal tearing. No large displaced medial meniscus tear is seen.

4. Apparent area of mild superficial irregularity along the inner margin of the body of the lateral meniscus is suspected to be related to motion artifact.

5. Large knee joint effusion.

6. Mild patellar tendinosis.

So in short it looks like I have a complete ACL tear, and possibly bits of meniscus damage on both sides of my knee.

Going over the options with the doctor, it was ultimately recommended I have an allograft ACL reconstruction surgery performed. This is based on how my knee is behaving and, particularly given that I work a physical job with lots of standing, twisting, moving 50lb pails of silicone and resin, etc.

This is a very common outpatient arthroscopy surgery, and risks are low of any complications, though recovery and rehab is an unfortunate long painful process that takes usually 9-12 months to regain full function.

I’m scheduled to have surgery next Wednesday, unless it is delayed for some reason. (Insurance possibly, though doubtful.) Talking over the recovery with the surgeon, it sounds like I should be back in the shop fully 4-6 weeks after the surgery.

This is certainly a surprise to myself, and Kawe. I would have never expected to suddenly tear my ACL doing something simple, and find myself having surgery, thousands in medical bills, and endless months of physical therapy to follow.

One silver lining of all this though, is I’ve convinced a resin caster that was working with me previously in the Montana shop, to relocate down to Texas, and he should be here sometime in June. This lines up with when I should be able to get back into the shop. So I’m hopeful we will be able to pull in these schedules a bit, and that it’ll give a bit more of a safety net around my surgical recovery, as with another caster in place, I can focus more on preparing and cutting molds, which I can mostly do sitting in a chair with a leg elevated if need be.

I apologize again, for the ongoing delay, really an unfortunate string of events seem to have aligned together that was impossible to predict. I’m keen to clear this backlog and get some absolutely amazing Boris sculpts out to all of you backers. We’ve done all of Westfalia’s campaigns featuring Boris miniatures, and every single campaign they are somehow improving. It's amazing to see, and to be part of, and I look forward to all of you having these wonderful pieces of art as soon as possible.

If anyone has any questions regarding the state of Wyrm Forge, my surgery, etc. Please feel free to reach out to [email protected]

Thanks for the continued patience, and I hope the next update is a much more positive one, for all of our sakes.

Fulfillment Schedule 2022
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 26, 2022 at 08:46:17 AM

Hi everybody,

As I know that many of you are supporting us across various projects, I thought it would make sense to give an update for the entirety of 2022. You will find this update on True Monsters, Virus! and the Cabinet of Curiosities pages.

+ The Cabinet of Curiosities - expected fulfilment: End of May / Early June

+ True Monsters / Virus - expected fulfillment: End of July / Early Aug

There are good reasons for this delay, such as Wyrmforge moving shop (with all that entailed - who knew HVAC installation could turn into a lasting nightmare…). Anyway - a simple and well planned move that was supposed to take 1-2 weeks turned into a move of 6 weeks, and just when the space was ready and Gregg started working again, he badly bruised his ankle (MRI results today).

I am sorry the communication around this was less than perfect, but many things just couldn’t be easily quantified such as the time it takes to install that darn HVAC…

Anyways - Gregg’s foot is still a hot mess right now, and I pray that he can get back to work ASAP… We should know more once he gets his MRI results back, but the above schedule was made with this issue in mind.

I apologize for the delays and the re-scheduling, but I can assure you that we’re finally through the bottle neck that was the move and setting up the new shop.

Thank you for your patience, and please reach out to [email protected] if you have a question or suggestion.

Cheers,

Kawe Weissi-Zadeh

Fulfillment is neigh!
about 2 years ago – Tue, Mar 22, 2022 at 04:50:59 AM

Hi everybody,

We're still casting monsters at this point of time, and I expect to start fulfillment late in March or very early in April. The reason for this slight delay is Wyrmforge's move from Montana to Texas. It all looks easy from the outside but then the detail work starts and Gregg was a busy bee sorting it all out.

So - instead of giving you nice pics of cast minis I give you a series of pics of Gregg's move - starting in the frozen lands of Montana, travelling through the mutant infested midlands, and finally arriving in Texas, with the last picture showing the newly assembled forge of resin!

I will make the update in 2-3 weeks, once Gregg has sent a ton of monsters.
